Composites, plastics. CompMechLab Experience
CompMechLab research engineers have been providing services in the area of composite materials numerical and analytical multi-level simulation and analysis for more than 25 years. CompMechLab has successful experience of simulating almost all stages of composite materials and structures lifecycle: manufacturing, strength, buckling, fracture and failure. Numerous projects have been done by requests of world leading industrial companies (Airbus, Boeing, Ahlstrom):
- Code development and application for simulation of resin transfer molding and thermoset curing during manufacturing of laminates;

- Development and application of multi-level homogenization for unidirectional ply with periodic and chaotic fiber patterns;
- Development and application of multi-level heterogenization for determination of micro-stresses in the local zones of stress concentration, load application, contact interaction;
- Finite element simulation of free edge effects in laminates, computation and analysis of singular stresses, optimization of composite plies stacking;
- Finite element simulation of delamination;
- Finite element prediction of damage accumulation and fracture propagation in laminates and UD plies;
- Development and application of algorithms for cracks propagation simulation with adaptive remeshing;

- Finite element simulation of linear and dynamical non-linear buckling, analysis of energy-absorbing properties of honeycomb laminates;

- Finite element modeling of strength and failure of glass- and carbon-fiber non-crimp fabric composites

- Finite element simulation of statics, dynamics, strength and failure of composite constructions.

ExoHand: Glove for hand power is showcased at Hanover fairExoHand, a glove designed to double the gripping power of the human hand, was a key attraction at Hanover Trade Fair. So much for mechanical graspers or mechanical claws: one viewer who watched the demo said it was “un-nerving,” but the glove is designed to do quite the opposite than un-nerve. Once worn on the user’s hand, it provides enhanced dexterity in picking up difficult objects and provides power when needed too. The engineers responsible for ExoHand worked with the objectives to “enhance the strength and endurance of the human hand” as well as to extend the hand’s scope of action. Read More... (Reads: 67)
Mosler produces a truly exclusive supercar Mosler MT900SPThe MT900SP will only be limited to 1 unit per year and is being promoted as an extreme 2 seat, mid-engined, air conditioned, rear-wheel drive sports car that’s capable of blowing just about any other car it lines up against. The MT900SP features a composite chassis and plenty of carbon fiber body panels that drastically shaves off some weight on the car, resulting in a car that weighs well under 2,500 lbs or around 1,140 kg. U.S. Navy Tests New, Sleeker RailgunsThe first of two new prototype railguns is now firing bullets, moving the U.S. Navy’s long-held dream of fielding an electromagnetic weapon a step closer to reality.
A 32-megajoule “prototype demonstrator” made by BAE has already been fired six times in a week, officials told reporters during a Feb. 28 teleconference. Read More... (Reads: 264)
